Rivermont Elementary School French Enrichment Program Instructor, Chattanooga TN, Sept 2012-Nov 2013 Responsibilities:
With the help of our sponsor Dr. Victoria Steinberg, I and three other students co-taught a French enrichment class at Rivermont Elementary.
We created our own parallel curriculum that would not only teach the students French vocabulary, but would also reinforce lessons from their other classes.
The group of co-teachers focused on their science and history courses and helped them learn to "make connections" between language and other knowledge.
For the first year, we applied for and received a competitive Think-Achieve "Beyond the Classroom" learning grant of $500 to fund our work, which primarily included supplies and travel.
The transition to Common Core curriculum forced us to end the program in November 2013, since the teachers and students needed to acclimate themselves to the changes presented.
